A sterling silver large engine turned cigarette or card case featuring hand painted, vitreous enamel, alphabet of the marine signal flags. This is a stunning example of a large size case, in superb original, untouched condition. The front of the case has the full natural flag system that is used to communicate between vessels. Not only does each flag represent a letter in the alphabet, they also have their own separate meaning, such as the "A" flag also means the ship bearing this flag alone is a diving support vessel.
Made in England, with full English control marks for Birmingham, England, made in 1937, by William Johnson & sons.
