To mark the successes of the 1952-1953 racing team, the iconic car manufacturer approached the esteemed model makers at Marchesini, in hopes of commissioning a limited run of the Ferrari Tipo F500 F2. This 1:6 scale model of the impressive vehicle, was originally presented to celebrities, top Ferrari customers, and racing drivers, accompanied by a bottle of Toschi liqueur.
With the distinctive Ferrari red painted body and large rubber tires, the model retains the majesty of its full-sized counterpart. Inside the body is a fully working rubber band engine which can be powered by the key that accompanies the model. Aurelio Lampredi, Ferrari's chief designer, had built an uncomplicated but superbly prepared car. The cars made their debut at the Modena GP at the tail end of the 1951 season with the legendary driver Ascari winning by a lap over the older V12 Tipo 166 of Froilan Gonzalez. The 1952 season was inaugurated at Syracuse in Sicily. The cars had new bodywork and four Weber carburetors. Ascari led a Ferrari 1, 2, 3 finish and went on to claim the World Championship for 1952 and 1953. This combination of proven design, the weight savings of a smaller engine and of course the skill of Alberto Ascari proved unbeatable. Ferrari and their Tipo 500 would win every race they entered except for two non-championship events and the final Grand Prix of 1953.
