The factory-backed Rothmans Cigarettes team enjoyed early success with the 956, including a 1-2-3 victory at Le Mans in 1982. A victory in 1983 followed, as well as 3 consecutive championship titles from 1982-84. The iconic livery returned to victory circle again in 1986 and ’87 with the 962C.
